A call for submissions wants finished work — a completed poem, story, or essay submitted for selection. A pitch call wants an idea for an unwritten piece. If your draft is done, submit; if you have an angle but no draft, pitch.

Rates vary widely — token payments of $10–$50 per piece are common at small journals, while established magazines pay $100–$500+ per story or per poem. Listings here show payment where the magazine states it, and explicitly non-paying markets are filtered out.
