Writing Fellowships

A grant funds a project; a fellowship funds a person — usually with a stipend, a program of mentorship or workshops, and sometimes a residency period. Fellowships frequently fund their value in kind (tuition, housing, travel), so not every listing shows a cash figure.

Many are specifically for emerging writers — debut authors, writers without a published book, or early-career journalists. Others target mid-career writers with a body of work. Each listing's eligibility section says which.
